Park Wan-suh was born in Gaepung, Gyeonggi-do province in 1931. She entered Seoul National
University majoring in Korean literature in 1950 but dropped out due to the Korean War. She debuted as an
author with her prize novel "The Naked Tree" sponsored by "Woman Donga" Magazine in her 40s, in 1970
after she had devoted her life only for her husband and her children for many years as a housewife. She
won numerous awards, such the Author in Korean Literature Award in 1980 with her novel "During Three
Days of Autumn," the 5th Yi Sang Literature Award with "Momma's stake" in 1981, Republic of Korea
Literature Award (1990), the 3rd Isan Literature Award with "Illusion" in 1991, the 38th Contemporary
Literature Award (1993) with "Dreaming Incubator," the 25th Dongin Literature Award (1994) with "My Last
Possession on Earth," the 5th Daesan Literature Award (1997) with "Was That Mountain Really There?"
1st Hwang Sun-won Literature Award (2001) with "In the Memory of Missing." |
